Math Blog #2

Step 1- Read the question
Step 2- Write down what they want to know
Step 3- Write down what information you know
Step 4- Write down what operations you have to follow (in order)
Step 5- Show your work
Step 6- Write your answer.
Example:
Alyssa rides her bike every day. The trail she rides is 6.5 miles to the end. If she rides to the end and back on the same trail every day, how many miles will she ride in the week?
Your answer should look like this:
Step 1: (check)
Step 2: How many miles she rides in a week.
Step 3: I know that the trail is 6.5 miles one way, and she rides there and back. (there are 7 days in a week)
Step 4: I will add 6.5 + 6.5 to tell me how far she rides in one day. Then I will multiply my answer by 7 because there are 7 days in one week.
Step 5: 6.5 + 6.5 = 13 miles in one day 13 miles x 7 days = 91 miles in  a week
Step 6: 91 miles

Now answer this question:
Edmundo and Alonzo were discussing the lengths of two long trails, the Pacific Crest Trail along the West Coast and the Appalachian Trail along the East Coast. The Pacific Crest Trail is 2,655 miles long. The Appalachian Trail is  2,161 miles long. If you round to the nearest hundred, approximately how much longer is the Pacific Crest Trail?

  1. step 2:how much longer is the Pacific Crest Trail rounded to the nearest hundred.
step 3:I know that i am suppose to round the number to the nerest hundred.
step 5:2,655 rounded to the nerest hundred is 3,000
    step 6:3,000 miles longer. #3

  2. step1.
step2.They want to know if you round to the nearest hundred, approximately how much longer is the pacific crest trail?
step3.The information i know is the pacific crest trail is 2,665 miles the appalachian trail is 2161 miles long
    step4.so i will add 2665 and 2161 together
    step5.so that = 4'826

  3. 1. check
    2. they what to know approimately how long is the pacific creast trail rounded to the nearest hundred.
    3. i know that the pacific creast trail is 2655 miles long and that the Appalachian Trail is 2161 miles long.
    4. i need to see if 655 is closer to 700 or 500
    5. 655 is closer to 700 because 5 will go up not down
    6. 2700 miles long and 655 is closer to 700

  5. 1) they wanted to know about how much bigger the Pacific crest trail is that the Apaleachian trail.
2)I know that the number of miles in the Pacisic crest trail rounded to the nearist hundred is 2,600 and the number of miles in the Apalacheian trail rounded to the nearest hundred is 2,200.
    3) so i just have to subtract 2,200 from 2,600
    4) 2,600-2,200=400
    5) 400 miles

  6. Step 1:check! :)
Step 2:how much longer is the PCT?
Step 3:I know that the PCT is 2,655 miles long and the AT is 2,161 miles long
Step 4:First round each number then subtract.
    Step 5:2700 - 2200 = 500
Step 6:The PCT is 500 more miles then the AT

  7. If you subtract 2,655 from 2,161 you get 514 so 514 rounded to the nearest hundred it's 500.

  8. They want me to know how much longer the Pacific Crest trail is than the Appalachion trail when rounded to the nearest hundred.I know that you need round to the nearest hundred. Also I know the Pacific Crest trail is 2,655 miles long and the Appalachion trail is 2,161 miles long. I will round 2,655 to the nearest hundred which is 2,700. Then I will round 2,161 to the nearest hundred which is 2,200. Now I will subtract 2,700 - 2,200. 2,700 - 2,200 = 500. The Pacific Crest trail is 500 miles longer than the Appalachion trail.

  9. step one:check #11
step two: how much longer is the Pacific Crest Trail?
step three:I know that the trail is 2,700 miles long when rounded to the nearest hundreds and the Appalachian Trail is 2,200 miles when rounded.
step four:I will subtract 2,200 from 2,700 and get my answer.
    step five: 2,700 miles - 2,200 miles = 500 miles.
    step six: 500 miles.

  10. They want to know how much logger is the pacific crest trail? What I know is the pacific crest trail is 2655 miles long and the appalachian trail is 2161. First I would round the numbers witch would be 2660 for the pacific trail and 2160 for the appalachian trail. then I would subtract the two and then get my answer.

  11. step 1:(check)
step 2:how much longer the pacific crest trail
step 3:I know that 2,655 and 2,161 rouned to the nearest hundred is 2,700 and 2,100
step 4:I will rouned 2,655 and 2,161 to the nearest hundred to get 2,700 and 2,100. then I will subtract them to get 800.
    step 5: 2,655 = 2,700 and 2,161 = 2,100 then 2,700 - 2,100 = 800
step 6: the pacific crest trail is 800 miles longer then the appalachin trail
